The Embassy of the United States in Conakry is the diplomatic mission of the United States of America in Guinea.
History
The Republic of Guinea was recognized by the United States on November 1, 1958, following Guinea's departure from French sovereignty as part of French West Africa. On February 13, 1959, the American Embassy at Conakry was officially established with Robert W. Rinden serving as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim.[1]
The United States has been involved in various pivotal moments in Guinea's recent history. Following the 2008 Guinean coup d'état,[2] and after the 2010 Guinean presidential election,[3] the United States reestablished strong diplomatic relations with the Guinean government. The U.S. supported Guinea through democratic developments, including the 2013 Guinean parliamentary election and the 2015 Guinean presidential election. The United States played a significant role during Guinea's battle against the Western African Ebola virus epidemic from 2014 to 2015.[4][5]
