Writers Against the War on Gaza is an ad hoc organization which published an online open letter on October 26, 2023. The open letter expresses strong condemnation of Israel's actions in the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, accuses Israel of attempting genocide against the Palestinian people, and refers to Israel as an apartheid state. It is modeled on American Writers Against the Vietnam War, an organization of American writers created in 1965 to oppose the Vietnam War.[1]
Signatories of the Writers Against the War on Gaza letter include Jazmine Hughes, who resigned from her position at the New York Times shortly after signing the letter, as well as Jamie Lauren Keiles, who announced he would no longer contribute to the Times after the letter was released. Hundreds of other writers also signed the letter, including Saul Williams and Susan Sarandon.[2][3][4]
