Ibrahim Qusaya (Arabic: إبراهيم قصيعة) also written as Ibrahim Qassiya and Ibrahim Qasia[1] (7 December 1991[2] — 14 November 2023) was a Palestinian volleyball player.[3]

Sports career

Qusaya was a member of the Palestinian national volleyball team.[4] He was a cousin of Syrian military spokesperson General Ali Mihoub.[5]

He won a bronze medal in the 2021 West Asian Beach Soccer Championship.[1][6] Together with Abdallah Al-Arqan he represented Palestine in the men’s beach volleyball event at the 2023 Asian Games in Ningbo, China.[7]

Military career and death

After trying to become a pilot he became a colonel in the Syrian Air Force Intelligence Directorate. From 2011 he worked as an assistant to the chief of the AFI Southern Region Branch in Harasta. Later he was sent to Daraa to head the AFI forces in charge of repressing the protesters in the southern area.[5]

On 14 November 2023, he was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Jabalia refugee camp alongside teammate Hassan Zuaiter.[8]
