The community is of Hindu and Muslim origin. In Pakistan, most Idrisis are Sunni while a few idrisis are Shia. They claim descent of the islamic prophet [idrish] idrisi's Ancestors are from Arab, turkey and persia. Idrisid dynasty, almoravid dynasty [Rohilla dynasty], [idrisid emirate of asir]. Mohammed bin qasim was also a khayyat(idrisi) who was the first muslim conqueror of islamic province of sindh. Famous persons of caste veer abdul hamid, allama iqbal, mahdi idrisi, ammar bin yasir, sumayya bint khayyat, khalifa bin khayyat, al idrisi etc. They were A warrior or جنگجو caste.

Etymology

The Hindi-Urdu word Darzi (दर्ज़ी درزی) means tailor.[1][2] It is derived from the Persian word darzan, which means "to sew".[3]
