"Price of Fame" is a song by American R&B singer Brent Faiyaz and is the fourth and final single to his second studio album, Wasteland (2022). It was produced by Faiyaz, Lil Rece, Nascent, L3gion, and Sam Wish.[1]

Background

The song was first released on February 8, 2021, as part of Faiyaz's SoundCloud exclusive extended play, Do Not Listen.[2] However, it later gained traction through social media and TikTok and was released as the final single to Wasteland.[1]

Composition

Pitchfork's Dani Blum stated that the track "undulates through pitched-down vocals slowed to a sludge and frantic beat changes", noting that it's "meandering without any real center".[3]

Critical reception

Writing for The New York Times, Jon Caramanica wrote that the song "rests on a bed of resonant plinks that feel bulbous and slippery".[4] Armon Sadler for Uproxx stated that "the recluse is coincidentally very open about his struggles with being a celebrity".[5]

Music video

The official music video was released on June 24, 2022, and is in black and white.[5]
