Prof. Yaw Safo Boafo (born 18 March 1943) is a former Ghanaian diplomat and Ambassador of Ghana to Côte d'Ivoire.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Boafo was born on 18 March 1943 and hails from Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He received his General Certificate of Examination Ordinary level and the Advanced Levels from Prempeh College in 1963. In 1967, he had his bachelor's degree in arts at the University of Ghana. In 1968, he further attended Kings College, University of London where he received a master's degree in Romance Languages and Literature. From 1969 and 1972, he took a doctorate program in Comparative Literature at the Université de Bordeaux in France.[4]

Career

In 2001, Boafo was appointed by John Kufuor as the Ambassador-designate of Ghana to Côte d'Ivoire.[5] He replaced Mr. Akumfi Ameyaw Munufie.[6] In June 2018, Nana Akuffo-Addo appointed him as a member of the Coastal Development Authority (CoDA).[7]

Personal life

Boafo is married and has four children. He likes to read, walk and watch sports.[4]

Awards and honours

In 1987, he received a Meritorious Award from the Ghana Association of French Teachers.[4]

In 1999, he was also a Honorary Member of the advisory board of the American Biographical Society.[4]

In 2001, he was also selected for the Award of Chevalier (Academic Division) in recognition for his contributions to French Language and Culture.[4]
