Rubi Rose Benton (born October 2, 1997) is an American rapper, songwriter, and model. She first garnered attention following her appearance in the music video for Migos' 2016 single "Bad and Boujee." She subsequently pursued a recording career after releasing a number of singles, which preceded her debut mixtape, For the Streets (2020) through the label Hitco. She gained wider success in her modeling career upon joining the subscription service OnlyFans earlier that year.[1] Benton later made a cameo in Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's music video for their 2020 single "WAP".[2]

In 2023, Benton signed to Josh Marshall's record label Mogul Vision, an imprint of Interscope Records to release an upcoming debut studio album preceded by the single "Hood Bitch Aesthetic".

Early life

Rubi Rose Benton was born on October 2, 1997, in Lexington, Kentucky, where she was also raised, by Nardos Ghebrelul, her mother, an Eritrean immigrant and dentist raised in Ethiopia and John Benton, her father, who is a lawyer of Japanese and African American descent. [3] She has an older sister named Scarlette and a younger sister named Coral.[4] She lived for one year in Geneva, Switzerland. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia in her junior year of high school. She attended Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia and ran track.[5][6] She studied politics at Georgia State University.[7] She grew up listening to Prince, Michael Jackson, Biggie, Marvin Gaye and Chaka Khan.[8] She is influenced by Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Future, Nicki Minaj, and Foxy Brown.[9][10][11]

Career

Benton first gained attention from appearing in Migos' music video for their single "Bad and Boujee". Around this time, she began regularly featuring on Twitch streams by YouTuber DJ Akademiks.[12]

Benton began her musical career in September 2018, with a remix of Playboi Carti's song "On Top". In 2019, she gained further traction with her single "Big Mouth".[13] In 2019, she was signed by A&R Chris Turner to LA Reid's record label Hitco Entertainment.[14] Rose made a cameo appearance in American rapper Cardi B's music video for her single "WAP", released on August 7, 2020.[15]

On December 25, 2020, Benton released her first official mixtape For the Streets, which contained guest appearances from Future and PartyNextDoor.[16] The mixtape saw generally negative reviews and failed to chart.[17] Benton was selected for the 2021 XXL Annual Freshman List.[18]

In 2023, she signed with Josh Marshall onto his label Mogul Vision, which operates as part of Interscope Records. After a hiatus from music, she released her single "Hood Bitch Aesthetic" in October of that year.[19] The following month, she joined rapper Sexyy Red on her "Hottest Hood Princess" Tour.[20]
