The Ram 1500 Ramcharger is a series hybrid full-size light-duty pickup truck based on the fifth generation Ram, announced in November 2023.
Background
The truck has electric motors for both the front and rear axle. The front axle motor is rated at 250 kilowatts (340 hp), while the rear is rated at 238 kW (319 hp). The gasoline engine is mated to a 130 kW (170 hp) generator which recharges the battery and extends the truck's range, but has no direct linkage to the wheels.[1] When additional power or traction is not needed, front motor automatically disconnects from the wheels to improve efficiency.[2]
Ram expects that the truck will have an all-electric range of 145 miles (233 km) and a range of 690 miles (1,110 km) when the gasoline engine is used. Trucks will be equipped with a CCS connector for DC fast charging, enabling 50 miles (80 km) of all-electric range to be added in approximately 10 minutes.[3]
Ram says they are targeting 663 horsepower (494 kW) and 615 pound-feet (834 N⋅m) of torque, a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.4 seconds, a towing capacity up to 14,000 pounds (6,400 kg) and payload capacity of up to 2,625 pounds (1,191 kg).[1][4]
