RExcel is an add-on for Microsoft Excel. It allows access to the statistics package R from within Excel using the statconnDCOM server and, for certain configurations, the rcom package.

RExcel runs on Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista , or 7), with Excel 2003, 2007, 2010, and 2013.[1]

The RExcelInstaller package was removed from CRAN due to FOSS license restrictions.[2]

Functionality

The primary feature set includes:

  • Data transfer (of matrices and data frames) between R and Excel in both directions.
  • The execution of R code from Excel ranges.
  • Implementation of macros which call R to perform calculations.
  • Calling R functions from cell formulas, using Excel's auto-update mechanism to trigger recalculation by R.
  • Using Excel as a GUI for R.
