National Gold Medal (Lao: ຫລຽນຄຳແຫ່ງຊາດ) is a highest award of Lao People's Democratic Republic. This honor created in 1981 by first Laotian president Souphanouvong. The honour awarded for President of Laos and specially foreigners.[1][2]

This honour first awarded to a former leader of Communist Party of Vietnam, Lê Duẩn, during an official state visit.[1] In 1989 this honour awarded to Souphanouvong on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Another notable recipients of this honour include Kim Il Sung, Hun Sen, Fidel Castro, Leonid Brezhnev, Nguyễn Phú Trọng and Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Design

The badge is round breast and it's gold, the across long 37mm, with hero style suspension and red ribbon which wide 22mm. Obverse is a sharp pointed gold star, surmounting a gold disk with a cogwheel with rice sheaves around, and below the name of the award in badge, ຫລຽນຄຳແຫ່ງຊາດ (lian kam haeng-saaht).
