NGC 6741, also known as the Phantom Streak Nebula, is a massive and dense planetary nebula located about 7000 light-years away from earth in the constellation of Aquila (the Eagle). This nebula is fast evolving and for the last 200 years, it's been through its recombination phase as a result of the rapid loss of luminosity of its cental white dawrf star.[3]
Although fairly bright, this object appears very small through a typical telescope and was missed by early surveyors of the skies and only spotted in 1882 by Edward Charles Pickering.
