Moscow–Saint Petersburg high-speed railway (Russian ВСМ Москва — Санкт-Петербург — проекти́руемая высокоскоро́стная железнодоро́жная магистра́ль Москва — Санкт-Петербург) is a proposed high-speed railway line in Russia. According to Russian Railways, construction was scheduled to begin in 2021.[3] The journey time will be approximately 2 hours 19 minutes, and the length of the line will be 679 km.[4][5]

In November 2021, it was reported that it was likely for the project to be abandoned favouring possible upgrades to the existing Saint Petersburg-Moscow railway.[6]

On August 18, 2023, Putin announced that it was about time to start building the railway. The project, that connects Saint Petersburg and Moscow within 2 hours 15 minutes, should only be the beginning, though, he states, talking about further plans about connections with Kazan and other cities to the East. [7]
