Mohammad Shafiur Rahman Ansari (born 1940, Hindi: मोहम्मद शफिउर रहमान अंसारी, Urdu: محمّد شفی ار رحمان انصاری) was an Indian politician. He was the member of three terms Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly from Varanasi.[1][2]
Early life and education
Safiur was born to Haji Mohammadin in 1940 at Banaras. He took his primary education at Madrasa; later, he went to Banaras Hindu University for further studies. Safiur did his M.A. and L.L.B from Banaras Hindu University.
Political career
Safiur Rahman was first elected as councilor of Varanasi Municipal Corporation in the year 1967. Later, he was elected a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Varanasi on Indian National Congress ticket three consecutive times in the years 1974, 1980, and 1985. He was the editor of a daily Urdu newspaper named 'Qaumi Morcha' and played an important role in journalism. He was the General Secretary of the 'Bunkar Ittehadi Committee' Varanasi, which was related to the problems of weavers in Uttar Pradesh. Safiur was the general secretary of a madrasa named 'Madrasa Dirratul Islah' Varanasi.[3]
