Marisol Rubio is a San Ramon City Councilmember and current candidate for the California State Senate.

Early life

Marisol Rubio earned her degree at UC Berkeley in Molecular and Cellular Biology with an emphasis on neurobiology. Prior to holding public office, Marisol founded organizations on reproductive health and education as well as protecting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.[2]

2020 run for California State Senate

In 2020, with the support of labor unions and the San Ramon Valley Democratic Club,[3] Marisol ran in the March primary for California State Senate against incumbent Steve Glazer in State Senate District 7.[4]

Dublin-San Ramon Services District Board Director

Later in 2020, Marisol ran for the board of the Dublin-San Ramon Services District (DSRSD), a water and sewer agency serving the Tri-Valley region of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.[5] Marisol ran unopposed[6] and was elected in the November 3, 2020 election. On the board of DSRSD, Marisol served as vice president and also chaired the DSRSD-EBMUD Recycled Water Authority.[7]

San Ramon City Councilmember

In 2022, Marisol ran for San Ramon city council on a platform that included affordable housing, urban infill to revitalize downtown, and water conservation.[8] She was elected with 64 percent of the vote.[9] On January 30, 2023, the San Ramon city council voted to adopt its new general plan housing element,[10] and was the first city in Contra Costa County to have its housing element certified by the State of California.[11]

2024 campaign for California State Senate

The 2020 redistricting changed the district number for the Central Contra Costa County State Senate District from 7 to 9.[12] Marisol announced her candidacy on August 17, 2023.[13] At the California Democratic Party's November 2023 endorsing convention, Marisol received 57% of delegate votes.[14]

Personal life

Marisol's daughter is a childhood brain cancer survivor, and Marisol has used her education in neurobiology to help her daughter overcome learning disabilities and make it to college.[15]
