The President of Ecuador Guillermo Lasso brought in the constitution clause number 148 known as mutual death in May 2023 when he knew that he was about to be impeached. This required all of the National Assembly members to stand for re-election.[2] Abad from the Pachakutik Plurinational Unity Movement – New Country party was elected to represent the province of Morona Santiago in the resulting election.[3] This is not a rich province and traditionally women have had poor rights with nearly 80% reporting gender violence. Abad has been involved in getting woman's shelters constructed to assist those who suffer domestic violence.[4]

Henry Kronfle became the President of the re-formed National Assembly of 137 representatives. At his election there were only nine members who voted against him including Rosa Baltazar, Adriana García, Lucia Posso, Fabiola Sanmartín, Andrea Rivadeneira, Carmen Tiupul, Mariana Yumbay and Abad.[3] The assembly also formed its commissions including the one on workers rights. Abad serves on this commission which includes Johanna Ortiz, Fernanda Méndez, María Teresa Pasquel and it is led by Johnny Terán and Marcela Holguín as vice-president.[5]
