Locked In is a 2023 psychological thriller film directed by Nour Wazzi and written by Rowan Joffé. It stars Famke Janssen, Rose Williams and Finn Cole. It was released on streaming service Netflix on 1 November 2023.
Plot
Katherine, a wealthy TV star, wakes up in a hospital and uses blinks to communicate with a nurse, saying that someone has tried to murder them. Nicky then seeks information about Katherine's life from Lina, who is Katherine's daughter-in-law and the wife of Jamie, Katherine's son.
Through a series of flashbacks, it is revealed that Katherine was married to a wealthy individual, and Jamie is their son. Jamie, who suffers from locked-in syndrome, longs for Katherine's love and care, but Katherine is often distant and preoccupied with her career. Lina, feeling a strong sense of responsibility, steps in to care for Jamie and becomes his primary caregiver, forming a close bond with him.
As Jamie's condition worsens, Lina and Jamie's relationship deepens, and they eventually marry. However, there is tension between Jamie and Lina due to unresolved issues related to Jamie's mother's death. Katherine resents Lina and frequently taunts her, highlighting the fact that Katherine is the one who inherited the family's wealth and mansion.
Dr. Robert, a family consultant, becomes involved in their lives and forms a romantic relationship with Lina. Unbeknownst to Lina, Robert has ulterior motives. He manipulates the situation and prescribes Jamie painkillers that slowly deteriorate his health, intending to inherit the property and wealth.
One day, Robert manipulates Jamie into taking a boat ride to an island. Sensing danger, Lina follows their instructions. Tragically, Robert intentionally causes the boat to capsize, resulting in Jamie's death. Lina attempts to rescue him but is unable to save him in time. Robert stages the incident as an accident, claiming that Jamie didn't know how to swim.
Following Jamie's death, Robert pressures Lina to sell the mansion, but she resists, suspecting his true intentions. When Lina tries to break up with him, Robert threatens to expose dark secrets in Lina's journal. Lina discovers that Robert and Katherine have been having an affair and conspiring against her to gain control of the property and wealth.
In a turn of events, Lina confronts Robert, and a struggle ensues. Katherine intervenes, attempting to protect Lina, but Robert runs over Katherine with his car in a fit of rage. Lina rushes Katherine to the hospital, where she recovers gradually, and Nicky helps her communicate through the alphabet.
Realizing the truth about Robert's intentions and Katherine's efforts to protect her, Lina decides to confront Robert. She injects him with a lethal drug meant for Katherine, and in a desperate attempt to kill Katherine, Robert attacks her. Lina fights back and ultimately kills Robert in self-defense.
The police later arrived at the mansion, collecting Robert's lifeless body. Lina, Nicky, and Katherine stand outside the house. Lina questions Nicky about whether she revealed any information to the police, and Nicky remains silent.
