Linda Cracknell is a Scottish nature writer.

Early life and education

She was born in the Netherlands and raised in England. She studied at the University of Exeter and International Language Institute in Paris.[1]

Career

Cracknell's first collection, Life Drawing, was published in 2001. It was shortlisted for the Saltire First Book of the Year Award.[1]

From 2002 to 2005, Cracknell was the writer-in-residence at Brownsbank Cottage, Hugh MacDiarmid's final home.

She published her second collection, The Searching Glance, in 2008.[1] She has since published seven more books: A Wilder Vein (2009), The Beat of Heart Stones (2010), Following our Fathers (2012), Call of the Undertow (2013), Doubling Back (2014), The Other Side of the Stone (2021), and Writing Landscape (2023). Doubling Back was BBC Radio 4's Book of the Week for May 26–30, 2014.

In addition to her books, Cracknell has written radio plays for the BBC.[2]

She was writer-in-residence at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and George Watson's College.[2]

Personal life

Cracknell lives in Perthshire.[2]
