
Lina Ghotmeh is an architect and leads her own practice Lina Ghotmeh Architecture based in Paris, France. Born in Beirut, she completed her education at the American University in Beirut.[1][2][3][4][5]
Biography
Education
She grew up in Beirut after the Lebanese civil war.[6]
In 2003, she graduated from the American University of Beirut.[7]
During her studies, she received the Areen Prize for her diploma project and the Azar Prize during her studies.[8] She left Lebanon to collaborate with the Ateliers of Jean Nouvel[9] in Paris and with Norman Foster in London.[10] Between 2007 and 2015, she taught architecture as an associate professor at the Ecole Speciale d'Architecture [11][12][13] and obtained the diploma of architecture by equivalence during the same period.[14][15]
Career
In 2016, Lina Ghotmeh created her studio Lina Ghotmeh — Architecture (LG—A), in Paris, in the 11e.[16] Her practice gathers a cosmopolitan team.[17][18] In the same year, she was nominated for the Mies Van der Rohe Award and won the Afex Grand Prize 2016 for the project of the Estonian National Museum that she realized with Dorell Ghotmeh Tane/ Architects (DGT)[19][20] co-founded in 2006 with Dan Dorell and Tsuyoshi Tane[21] after winning the Estonian National Museum competition.
In 2021, she won the Tamayouz Prize[22] for Woman of Outstanding Achievement Award.
Passionate about wood construction, Lina Ghotmeh is designs with this biosourced material.[23] In 2017, her project for a wooden tower was selected by the city of Nantes. [24] Her workshop is also realizing the project Réalimenter Masséna,[25] winner of the call for innovative projects of the city of Paris and the construction of low carbon housing for the athletes' village for the 2024 Olympic Games of Paris.[26][27][28]
In 2022, Lina Ghotmeh is nominated as the architect of the 22nd Serpentine Pavilion to be delivered in 2023.[29]
In 2023, she has delivered with her practice the Hermès' new manufacture in Normandy France.[30][31]
The building is the first low carbon, energy positive E4C2 manufacture building in France.[32][33]
