Lee Bo-Ik (Korean: 이보익; Hanja: 李寶益; 31 May 1876 - 18 October 1959) was a North Korean farmer in the South Pyongan Province. Lee was the maternal Grandmother of the founder of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Kim Il Sung, as well as being the Great Grandmother of Kim Jong Il, and the Great-Great Grandmother of current leader of The Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Kim Jong Un.[1]
Biography
Lee married Kim Bo-Hyon in her teen years, and with him she had 3 sons and 3 daughters. Lee was a Protestant going to the Chilgol Sabbath Church with her grandson Kim Won-Ju. Lee and her husband were regarded as patriots, and because of this Lee had a strong bond with her grandson and revolutionary Kim Il Sung who visited her on many occasions.
Lee was taken captive by the Imperial Japanese army on two occasions, most likely as a result from the Kim family's revolutionary activities and Anti-Japanese sentiment.[2]
