Jasper AI is a company that specializes in developing artificial intelligence software for automating content creation tasks related to copywriting and marketing.[1][2] It functions as an interface to an API, utilizing the pre-existing AI models provided by OpenAI, rather than proprietary foundational AI models[3][4]

History

Jasper AI was founded in January 2021 by Dave Rogenmoser, Chris Hull, and John Phillip Morgan in Austin, Texas.[5] In October 2022, the company raised $125 million in its first investment round, which valued the company at $1.5 billion.[6] [7]

However, the emergence of ChatGPT from OpenAI on November 30, 2022, presented a competitive threat to Jasper AI's market position. In the following year, the company experienced a series of financial and operational adjustments.[8] This included hosting the GenAI Conference in San Francisco in February 2023, undergoing staff reductions in July, a revaluation of company shares in September, and a change in leadership as Timothy Young succeeded Dave Rogenmoser as CEO.[9][10]

Technology

Jasper AI software operates on technology from third-party models such as Cohere, OpenAI, Anthropic,[10] and DALL·E 2.[11] Its technology facilitates the generation of written content like blog posts and website copy. The software is designed to cater to business needs, offering distinct solutions to its users which includes notable names such as HubSpot and Sports Illustrated.[12] Jasper also has an "AI copilot" interface that provides AI-driven marketing campaign analytics.[13][14]

During an interview in August 2023, Jasper president Shane Orlick, told AP news that Jasper's products suffered from hallucination, a side effect of large language models that causes false or incorrect information to be produced.[15]
