Jamil Ahmad is a Pakistani politician who is a member of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly since 22 August 2023. He previously served in this position from 11 December 2009 to 11 December 2014. He also served as the Deputy Speaker of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly from December 2009 to December 2015.[1]

Political career

Jamil was elected in the 2009 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election on 12 November 2009 reserved for technocrats and professionals as a candidate of Pakistan People's Party (PPP).[2][3] In the same election, he contested from GBA-2 Gilgit-II as a candidate of PPP, but was unsuccessful. He received 4,782 votes and was defeated by Deedar Ali, an independent candidate.

He contested the 2015 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election from GBA-2 Gilgit-II as a candidate of PPP, but was unsuccessful. He received 7,176 votes and was defeated by Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML(N)).[4]

Jamil recontested in the 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election on 15 November 2020 from GBA-2 (Gilgit-II) as a candidate of Pakistan People's Party. According to the official results he was defeated, but later he challenged the results and after two and half years, the Gilgit-Baltistan Election Tribunal ruled that he won the elections by defeating Fatehullah Khan, a candidate of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).[5][6][7][8]
