It contains two species, H. kokutensis and H. steinmanni that have been found in Thailand.[1] Additionally, one more unidentified Heteroptychodus has been discovered in Japan.[1] It was first thought to be a type of Ptychodontidae but has more recently been reclassified as a Hybodontid.[2]
