Formerly known online by her moniker GraceFitUK, Beverley founded TALA and Shreddy whilst studying Music at St Peter's College, Oxford.[2] Both businesses are now worth millions, with TALA having an 8+-figure valuation.[3]
Early life and education
Grace Margaret Beverley was born in London, England, on 16 February 1997 to Victoria Broackes, a curator (daughter of entrepreneur and the founder of Trafalgar House, one of the United Kingdom's largest contracting businesses Nigel Broackes), and Peter Beverley. She is the third of four daughters.[4][5][6][7]
Beverley attended Francis Holland School, Regents Park and St Paul's Girls' School.[8] As a teenager, she was Dean's Chorister (head chorister) at Salisbury Cathedral.[7] She went on to gain a choral scholarship at St Peter's College, Oxford, where she studied music as an undergraduate, graduating in 2019, and receiving her MA Oxon in 2023.[9]
Career
Social media influencer
At the age of 18, Beverley began to grow her social media accounts - primarily YouTube and Instagram -[9] under the name GraceFitUK. [10] Grace marketed herself as a lifestyle vlogger with a focus on fitness, studying at Oxford and veganism. She now has an audience of over 3 million followers on these platforms.[9][2] Alongside her content, she also sold fitness bands and workout plans to her audience and worked with global brands such as fitness company Gymshark.[11]
Businesses
Beverley has established three companies: TALA, Shreddy and more recently, The Productivity Method.
TALA
TALA is an activewear and fashion brand that markets itself as providing ethically made clothing, with a focus on quality.[12] AAccording to the company, most garments are made from recycled materials such as plastic bottles upcycled into yarn, or factory offcuts, retailing at prices similar to brands such as Nike and Adidas.[12] TALA was launched in 2019 with the support of an influencer brand-building company and turned over £6.2 million in its first year.[13] In April 2021 Beverley re-acquired the business, building the activewear & athleisure business from scratch. She appointed Morgan Fowles as managing director of TALA in May 2021, to help her find investment and bolster the business.[3] [14]Tala raised £4.2 million in December 2021, led by Active Ventures and Venrex, which has seen the team grow to over 40 people.[15] TALA’s sales were in eight figures for 2023, up 100 per cent from 2022. In 2023 Fowles was named TALA’s CEO.[3]
Shreddy
Shreddy is a fitness tech and product brand. Users pay a monthly fee to access exercise classes and meal plans on the app according to their preferences and goals and can buy branded equipment required to complete the classes.[16] Shreddy also sell a range of supplements and protein bars which are stocked in supermarkets and drugstores.[17] Beverley is the founder and current CEO of Shreddy.[18]
Some equipment now sold under the Shreddy umbrella brand was originally designed for one of Beverley's previous businesses, B_ND, which focussed on retailing resistance bands for home and gym use. The B_ND concept was assimilated into the Shreddy brand in 2020.[19][20]
The Productivity Method
In 2022, Beverley founded The Productivity Method, a self-confessed “side hustle” which sells planners and diaries.[21] The planners follow the productivity methodology set out in Beverley’s book Working Hard, Hardly Working: How to achieve more, stress less and feel fulfilled.[22] At one point, the waitlist for Beverley’s planners was over 75,000.[23]
Podcast
Beverley hosts a weekly podcast titled Working Hard, Hardly Working where she interviews guests from all walks of life about their careers and the non-negotiable habits that led them to success.[24]
Recognition
Beverley was named first in Forbes' 30 under 30’s retail and e-commerce list at age twenty-three, highlighting her work to accelerate the sustainable fashion space.[25] In 2020, Beverley was awarded The James Joyce Award, also known as the Honorary Fellowship of the Society, by University College Dublin.[26] In TALA’s 3rd year of trading, TALA closed a 5.7m dollar investment round with blue chip venture capital and private equity firms.[15]
