Edith (Edie) Ceccarelli (née Recagno; born February 5, 1908) is an American supercentenarian and the oldest person living in the United States.[1] At the age of 115 years, 300 days, she is considered the third oldest living person in the world after Maria Branyas Morera from Spain and Fusa Tatsumi from Japan.[2]

    Life

Ceccarelli is the eldest of seven children of Italian emigrants. Her father opened a grocery store in Willits in 1916. Edith Recagno graduated from Willits Union High School in 1927. In 1933 she married Elmer Keenan and moved with him to Santa Rosa. They adopted a daughter and returned to Willits in 1971. After being widowed, she married Charles Ceccarelli in 1986. She was widowed for a second time in 1990.

Edith Ceccarelli danced regularly well into her old age. She lived independently until she turned 107 and moved into a retirement home. She suffers from dementia, but was able to walk with a walker until her 114th birthday.[3] She attributes her old age to the fact that she doesn't smoke or drink (except for a glass of wine with dinner).

Ceccarelli had outlived six younger siblings, two husbands, a daughter and three grandchildren.[4]
