Crossroads (Music from the Major Motion Picture) is the soundtrack to the 2002 film Crossroads starring Britney Spears, Anson Mount, Zoe Saldana, Taryn Manning, Kim Cattrall, and Dan Aykroyd, directed by Tamra Davis from a screenplay written by Shonda Rhimes.[1] The soundtrack was released by Zomba Music and Jive Records on February 5, 2002 and featured six songs: two of the tracks—the karaoke of Spears' cover of the Arrows' 1975 single "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" and a remix of "Overprotected"—were performed by Spears herself. The album featured tracks by Mystikal, Matthew Sweet, Jars of Clay and Bowling for Soup.[2]
Spears' third studio album Britney (2001) was also promoted as the soundtrack for the film with three of them—"I Love Rock 'n' Roll", "Overprotected", and "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman"—were also featured in the film;[3] the latter was released as the film's theme song in January 7, 2002. All those tracks were not included along with the first album.[4]

Commercial performance
The track "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" which was the second single of Britney and the film's theme song opened to critical acclaim and acheived moderate commercial success. Although failing to reach Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at number two on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100,[5] number 21 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart,[6] debuted in its peak position of number two in the United Kingdom,[7] and peaked within the top ten in Australia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and Sweden.[8] The song was certified gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association for selling over 30,000 physical units of the single.[8] Despite critical acclaim, the song won a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Original Song and nominated at the same category at the Stinkers Bad Movie Awards, owing to the film's negative response.[9][10] The song "Overprotected" also received nomination for the former category.[11]
