Barion Payment Zrt. is a Hungarian financial technology company known for its electronic payment gateway 'Barion Smart Gateway' which allows online merchants to accept online payments.[1]

Overview

Barion was founded in 2015 by Tamás Bíró and Sándor Kiss who also serves as the company's CEO.[2][3][4][5][6] The company is headquartered in Budapest, Hungary.[7][8][9]

Barion allows online merchants to accept e-commerce payments through various payment methods such as credit cards, wire transfers or digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, Barion Wallet. The company offers its payment gateway for ecommerce websites and e-money accounts for both individuals and businesses.[10][11][12]

In 2017, Barion raised 2 million euros from Home Credit, a subsidiary of PPF Group owned by Petr Kellner. The Home Credit investment group is based in Czech Republic.[13][14]

In June 2020, the company received 2 million EUR in a Series B funding round led by European private equity firm Financial Services Capital (FSC).[15][16]

In 2021, the company exceeded 1 billion HUF in revenue.[17] Barion is authorized and regulated by the Hungarian National Bank.[18][19][20][21][22]
