Background

The Balaaza and Warshefana are two clans of Tripolitania. The Balaaza is mostly composed of Banu Sulaym Arabs and small fraction of Lawata. The Warshefana is composed of Zenata and small Harb (tribe) factions.[3]

The war was fought over a well between both Zawiya and the city of Warshefana.

Combat

The battle lasted two days. The Balaaza used cannons, muskets, and cavalry. The Warshefana were outnumbered and had less equipment and no access to cannons, leading to their defeat.[4]

Aftermath

The Warshefana lost 17 men and suffered many casualties, which caused them to withdraw from the war and sign a peace treaty. The two clans continued to have difficult relations.
