Ali Dirul (born September 11, 1986) is an award-winning[1] [2]entrepreneur, a thought leader is the founder and CEO of Ryter Cooperative Industries.
Early life and education
Ali Dirul grew up on Detroit's West Side and felt the lure of technology early on. Homeschooled by his mother until the fifth grade, Ali accomplished his early education at two Detroit African-centered institutions, Nsoroma Institute and Aisha Shule/W.E.B.DuBois Preparatory Academy, where he obtained mentoring from figures like activist and educator Malik Yakini and former Detroit City Council Member Kwame Kenyatta.
He then continued his education, taking co-op jobs with Daimler and Detroit Diesel while studying mechanical engineering and physics at the University of Detroit-Mercy. Ali then earned a master's degree in mechanical engineering and alternative energy systems from Oakland University in Rochester, where the idea of creating his own company first emerged.
Career
Dirul helped create a study evaluating net-zero energy homes, which piqued his interest in applying the technology to Detroit neighborhoods. D-Town Farm, a seven-acre organic farm in Detroit's Rouge Park, then approached him to help with a project that was tailor-made for his skillset.[3] D-Town, which is run by his former school mentor Yakini,[4] needed Ali's assistance in building a solar-powered charging station that could be used to power phones, walkie-talkies, power tools, and other farm-related devices. Seeing the potential of what he and his team could provide for the community at D-town, Ali founded Ryter Cooperative Industries in 2015[3] [5]and the rest is history.
To date, the company has worked on several notable projects for the community over the years, including historical project which is slated to open in 2023. Chosen as the prime contractor of a solar micro-grid solution provider for the City of Detroit's first climate resiliency hub for the New Lenox Center Hub.[6] The new building will be powered by approximately 70kW of solar integrated with an industrial battery and generator for redundant power availability during grid outages.
With the company's continued growth, the public has become more interested in the company's work, and several renowned authors have covered Ali Dirul and RCI:
