Alexander A. Madiebo (29 April 1932[1][2] – 3 June 2022) was a Nigerian soldier. He served as the Commander Of the Biafran Army from 1967 to 1970.[3][4]

Life and career

Madiebo joined the military in 1954, during the colonial era, after graduating from Government College, Umuahia.[3] In 1960, he was deployed to Congo, during the Congo Crisis as a peacekeeping force for United Nations Operation in the Congo.[3] In 1964, he was made the first indigenous commander of the Artillery Regiment.[3] He fled from the northern region during the 1966 anti-Igbo pogrom.[3] He ran back to The Eastern region There he joined the Biafran Army and became commander of the Biafran Army 51Brigade,He wasn't Made Commander of The Biafran Army After Biafran President Odumegwu Ojukwu removed Brigader General Hillary Njoku who was the Army commander.After this Madiebo created the S Division appointed Timothy Onwatuegwu as Goc of the new division and ordered Biafran Soilders to defend Enugu the Biafran Capital against incoming Nigerian Soilders,Enugu later fell days but this boosted the Biafran soldiers sprit to defend their Country against Nigeria The capital was later moved to Umuahia a city that lied in the heart of Biafra.Again madiebo saw battle in the Siege of Owerri in 1968 when Biafran President Ojukwu orderd him and Brigadier Lambert Ihenacho to liberate Owerri,in just few weeks Madiebo and Ihenacho Biafran Captured Owerri while Almost destroying the Nigerian 16 Brigade in the process this was a very great victory for the Biafrans.Madiebo fought in the last battle of the war "Operation tail wind" Which saw the fall of Biafra,He joined Biafran President Ojukwu to flee into exile in ivory coast. He later returned to Nigeria Years After. He died in the Year 2022 at the age of 90
