Local elections will be held in Poland by 23 April 2024 to elect members for all 16 provincial (voivodeship, województwo) assemblies, 380 county (powiat) councils, and 2477 commune (gmina) councils. There will also be direct elections for commune heads (mayors and city presidents). The previous elections in 2018 saw the Law and Justice party win the most seats and rule 8 vovoideships (as of now 7),.
Political parties
Civic Coalition is a coalition made up of the Civic Platform, Modern, Polish Initiative, and the Greens. The PO has been Poland's second largest political party locally since 2018 and the main opposition to Law and Justice. They were the leading party of local government from 2006 to 2018 and are members of the European Peoples Party (EPP) group. They together with the Third Way and part of the New Left constitute the Polish government on the parliamentary level.
Law and Justice has been the largest party on local level from 2018 United Poland have also been a part of the government and collectively they are known as the United Right. PiS is the largest member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group.
Third Way is the centrist and Christian democrat coalition of the Polish People's Party as well as Poland 2050 which is a new (third largest on parliamentary level) Conservative Liberal party led by Marshall of The Sejm Szymon Hołownia. TD is a coalition of members of Renew Europe (Poland 2050) and European People's Party (PSL). They together with the Civic Coalition and part of the New Left constitute the Polish government on the parliamentary level.
New Left is composed of social liberals, social democrats and democratic socialists, last of which is represented by a separate party, Left Together. They, apart from Left Together, together with the Third Way and Civic Coalition constitute the Polish government on the parliamentary level.
Konfederacja is a de-jure party but de facto coalition of the National Movement, New Hope, the Crown and other minor right-wing parties. They are not members of any pan-European group. They are a mixture of hard libertarian parties as well as nationalist anti-immigrant parties.
