Borrowed from Old Ruthenian мосендзъ (mosendz), from Old Polish mosiądz, from Proto-Slavic *mosędzь, from Old High German *massing, from Proto-West Germanic [Term?], from Latin massa (“mass, bulk (of material)”), from Ancient Greek μᾶζᾰ (mâza, “lump, mass”). Doublet of mísingis.
