Aphetic form of earlier ymachludd, from Middle Welsh ymachluð. By surface analysis, ym- (“self”) + achludd (“to hide”), which is from Middle Welsh achluð, from Proto-Brythonic *axlʉð, from Latin occlūdō (“cover up”).
