  1. A channel for the purpose of draining liquid out of a system.
    • 1911, Engineering Review, volume 21, page 28:
      The valves are removable from the surface without excavating the hydrants, and are provided with automatic drainouts with brass nipple, set below frost line, and are surrounded with a broken stone blind drain.
