acira
Romanian

Etymology

Maybe from Vulgar Latin *accēnāre (“to wait until the evening”), originally meaning "to wait until the time of dinner". For the rhotacism of the intervocalic nasal, compare fereastră from Latin fenestra; however, this is uncommon in Romanian, especially without cause of dissimilation. Cf. also the related cină, which did not undergo rhotacism.
