Etymology
From Proto-Germanic *swankijaną, from *swinganą (“to swing”) + *janą. Suggested to be related to Gothic 𐌰𐍆𐍃𐍅𐌰𐌲𐌲𐍅𐌾𐌰𐌽 (afswaggwjan, “to despair”).[1]
