Proto-Italic

    Etymology

Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *h₃eyt- (“to take along, fetch”). Compare the future tense οἴσω (oísō) of Ancient Greek φέρω (phérō, “carry”), as well as Luwian [script needed] (hizza(i)-, “to fetch”).
