Proto-Finnic
Etymology
Disputed, but cognate with Proto-Samic *orēs. Traditionally held to be a derivation of Proto-Finno-Ugric *urɜ (whence Hungarian úr, but note that it also has alternative etymologies). LÄGLOS however supports an alternative etymology by Hofstra, which instead posits a borrowing from Proto-Germanic *ūraz (“aurochs”), in which case the original meaning must have been "male animal".
Inflection
There are actually two declensions, s-stem and ks-stem, as evidenced by Finnish.
