Proto-Finnic
Etymology
Unknown. Cognate with Proto-Samic *rëntē. Germanic origin, such as from Proto-Norse *ᛊᛏᚱᛁᚾᛞᚨ- (*strinda-) (whence Old Norse strind (“border, side, land”), Norwegian strind (“slice, line, row”)) is unlikely due to the semantic gap.
