π·π»π΄πΉπ³πΏπΌπ°
Gothic

    Etymology

Contains the comparative suffix -πΏπΌπ° (-uma). The root is ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *αΈ±ley- (βto lean, inclineβ), with a sense of "crooked, slack". Compare Old Irish clΓ© (βleftβ) and Latin clΔ«vius (βinauspiciousβ) from the same root. The origin of the π³ (d) is unclear, but Lehmann (1986) suggests derivation from a formation similar to Proto-Germanic *hlΔ«dΕ (βslopeβ).

Declension

The accusative plural neuter form is attested as π·π»π΄πΉπ³πΏπΌππ½π½π° (hleidumΕnna) in Codex Ambrosianus A, apparently a misspelling; Codex Ambrosianus B has the expected π·π»π΄πΉπ³πΏπΌππ½π° (hleidumΕna).
