First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean ᄯᆞᄅᆞᆷ (Yale: stolom).
Equivalent to 따르 (ttareu-, “to follow”) + ㅁ (-m, nominalisation suffix).
