Etymology
    
Compound of 藍 (ai, “indigo color”) + 染め (some, 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 染める (someru, “to dye”).). The some changes to zome as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
First attested in 927.[1]
