Etymology

Compound of 普 (fu, the on'yomi for term 普く amaneku, “widely, broadly, extensively”, in the sense of “to the public”) +‎ 茶 (cha, “tea”).

Also sometimes read as fusa, using the alternative tōon reading of sa for the 茶 (“tea”) character.[1][2]
