Etymology
Literally a compound of 串 (kushi, “skewer”) + 鯖 (saba, “mackerel”).
A second sense arose out of a kind of pronunciation spelling, punning off of the slang senses of 串 (kushi, “proxy”) from a clipping of プロクシー (purokushī, “proxy”), and 鯖 (saba, “server”) as a sort of rebus of サーバー (sābā, “server”).
