From Sanskrit परम (parama, “most distant, last; highest, best, most excellent, greatest; chief, principal, supreme; etc”) or Pali parama (“idem”). Cognate with Khmer បរម (bɑrom), Lao ບໍລົມ (bǭ lom), ບໍຣົມ (bǭ rom), Javanese ꦥꦫꦩ (parama).
