Semi-learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ⁧ܡܐܬܝܢ⁩, from Aramaic ⁧מָאתַיִן⁩ (māʾṯayin); compare Arabic ⁧مِئَتَان⁩ (miʔatān) and Hebrew ⁧מָאתַיִם⁩ (matáyim).
