Possibly derived from Proto-Finno-Permic Finno-Volgaic *čark(k)ɜ (“fork(-like instrument), kedge”). For a similar semantic development, compare Finnish harkita (“to deliberate, consider, ponder”).
Akin to Moksha шарьхкодемс (šaŕhkoďems).
