Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic небо (nebo), from Proto-Slavic *nebo, from Proto-Indo-European *nébʰos (“cloud”). Compare native Belarusian нёба (njóba) from the same Proto-Slavic term. The same duality exists with Russian не́бо (nébo) and нёбо (njóbo).
