Inherited from Old Ruthenian дба́ти (dbáti), тба́ти (tbáti), ultimately from Proto-Slavic *dъbati, probably via Polish dbać. Cognate with Russian дбать (dbatʹ), Czech dbát, Ukrainian дба́ти (dbáty).
