    Etymology
    
Inherited from Old Church Slavonic бꙑльѥ (bylĭje, “plant, grass”), from Proto-Slavic *bylьje (“herbage”), originally a collective sg. tantum with meaning cluster of weeds/herbs. Morphologically equivalent to Proto-Slavic *bylь (“herb”) + -е (-e). Out of use and replaced by билка (bilka).
