Jeongdongjin

Jeongdongjin (정동진), also known as Chongdongjin, is a town near Gangneung in Gangwon, South Korea., South Korea, and one of the most popular sites in Korea for watching the sunrise on New Year's Day. It is eighteen kilometers south-east of Gangneung on the east coast of Korea along the Sea of Japan.

Jeongdongjin is a favorite destination for young couples in Korea because of its romantic scenery and white sand. From the top of the cliffs where you can look down on Jeongdongjin Station, and there is a sculpture park surrounded by palm trees. It was a set of a Korean television series, Hourglass, and it made Jeongdongjin train station famous.

• 🌍 Jeongdongjin Beach (정동진해변), 17, Jeongdongyeok-gil. It refers to the area around Jeongdongjin Beach, about 18 kilometres south of Gangneung city centre. It's a classic sunrise spot, and one of the most popular places to watch the sunrise of the new year every 31 December. (updated Sep 2023)
